Tomato Garlic Chutney (Quick & Easy)

This simple tomato garlic chutney is fresh, flavourful and easy to make. It pairs beautifully with paratha, chilla, dosa, sandwiches or even as a dip.

Ingredients
  

  • 5 tomatoes cut into halves
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of chilli powder
  • ½ small onion finely chopped
  • Fresh coriander finely chopped

Method
 

  1. Heat the pan
  2. Add 1 teaspoon oil to a pan and heat gently.
  3. Add tomatoes and garlic
  4. Place the tomato halves and garlic cloves in the pan.
  5. Cover and cook
  6. Cover with a lid and cook for a few minutes on medium heat until the tomatoes become soft and tender.
  7. Remove the tomato skins
  8. Once cooked, remove from the heat. When cool enough to handle, gently peel off the tomato skins.
  9. Let everything cool
  10. Allow the cooked tomatoes and garlic to cool slightly before blending.
  11. Blend the chutney
  12. Add the tomatoes and garlic to a blender with 1 teaspoon salt and a pinch of chilli powder. Blend until smooth or slightly chunky, depending on your preference.
  13. Add onion and coriander
  14. Transfer the chutney to a bowl. Add finely chopped onion and fresh coriander and mix well.

Notes

  • Adjust the chilli powder according to your taste.
  • For extra heat, add a green chilli while cooking the tomatoes.
  • Let the tomatoes cool slightly before blending.
  • Blend until smooth or leave slightly chunky, depending on your preference.
  • Store leftover chutney in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
